Faux Food Fun & a Little Business

I've been meaning to get to this faux food post for awhile now, but first I need to attend to a little business...

My Grandma has brought it to my attention that she frequently comments on my blog posts, and wondered if I had been seeing them...huh???

Well, the answer is.....nope!  The thing is, for some reason, I thought that if I received comments that I would get a notification or something.  Apparently I need to actually click on the comments tab and check for myself.....regularly 😁

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have now made a point to read (and respond to) every single comment, all the way back to 2014!  I'm going to get in the habit now of checking my comments tab regularly, and of course, I'll make sure to respond! 😎😘

Love you Grandma!

Now on to this fabulous faux food post!

Last Christmas I received a few decorative food gifts and
I can't wait to share the photos, check them out:

Lemonade

Can you stand it?  These lemonades look so real that Baby Girl and I had to buy some lemonade at the grocery store πŸ˜„

The lemonades were ordered from, "Just Dough It" -a fake food and drink replica company.  I highly recommend the business - when one of the glasses arrived cracked, they sent a replacement out right away.  No hassle, no fuss, excellent customer service.

Not only does Just Dough It offer great service, but they sent me a catalog too...22 pages of absolutely adorable food props!  I'm seriously wanting some fake ice cream sundaes now 😌

(You can click here to see these lemonades featured as part of my summer decor)

Side Note:  The rest of the items in this post (pictured below-) were purchased from the
Glitzy Gift Shop via Amazon.

Mini White Cake

Assorted Cookies

Chocolate Cake with Raspberries

The cakes and cookies are all tucked into my china cabinet in the kitchen, and stay out year round.
(You can click here to see the cabinet)

So I know you're wondering, what's the deal with the fake food, plants, etc???  I don't really know, I just love them! 😍

As a child my favorite toys were my kitchen set, dolls and Barbies.  I had sooooo much fun with my toys and my favorite game was to play 'house'.  Even now, I often still feel like I'm 'playing house' (instead of working) and I refer to my artificial items as 'dollhouse decor'.  I guess it's part nostalgia and part contentment with the simple things.  Either way, I love it! πŸ˜†

Statue Decor

Sir Lancelot

A long time ago I walked into my Granny's house to see a very ugly statue sitting next to the TV in her living room.  I asked, "Granny, what the hell is that?!?!" and she told me that she bought the statue at a garage sale (of course 😊).  She said she thought she should have her very own knight in shining armor.  Well, when you put it that way, all of the sudden it's a pretty cool idea, right? 😁😁😁

So when Granny eventually passed away one of the things I asked to have was her statue of Sir Lancelot.  Now, don't get me wrong, he was still very ugly, but I had a plan for that.  I spray painted him in a shiny solid gold and then draped him with a few golden necklaces (the necklaces came from my Granny's costume jewelry box)

Now he is fabulous and looks right at home in my closet!

*****

Now for another Granny story:
Once at an antique sale I saw this absolutely gorgeous statue lamp that was about 5 feet tall.  The statue was a beautiful Greek/ Roman lady (I love Greek/ Roman pillars and statues) and the entire thing was gold.  Perfect for me, right?!  Well, almost, she was $400 and didn't even work anymore! πŸ˜•

So I passed up the statue, but I told Granny all about her the next time I saw her.  Granny was just as impressed with my description and claimed that she would have spent the $400 just to have the statue!  Granny never spent that kind of money on anything that wasn't  really needed, so I never forgot the conversation 😊

Fast forward about 10 years later and guess what I found while treasure hunting last month?!?!?!?!  That's right, I found my beautiful lamp-lady statue!!!!  This one is smaller, intended for use on a table top, and was painted realistically, but still - it's her!!!  Annnnnnd.....she was only $3 😎

Of course I brought her home and fixed her up, take a look:

As Purchased

Here you can see the lamp with the original painting - ok, but not 'me'.
(I removed the lamp hardware from the back before taking the photo)

She's so pretty! ❤

After a coat of gold paint.

So. Much. Better. πŸ˜€

This photo was taken on my kitchen counter, so you can see that even though she is smaller than the lamp from the antique sale, she's still a pretty decent sized statue.

And with a bit of Jewelry.

Now she is perfect, and definitely 'me'!

I decided to name the statue 'Helen' after Helen of Troy from Greek Mythology and because my Granny's first name was Helen.  So now I have two awesome statues in my closet, and they both remind me of my Granny - Score!

I Love Lamps!

I love the addition of lamps in my home.  Of course we already have the standard ceiling lights, but I like to be able to alter the lighting within rooms.  Lamplight is great for additional task lighting (such as at a desk) but also gives a cozy glow to the space that can't be replicated with an overhead light.

That being said, I am well on the way to having a gorgeous (and thrifted) milk glass lamp in every room!

Read on to see my a couple of  new addition:

While browsing through Good Will this past Spring, I found these TWO milk glass lamps for a total of $15.  I knew the dirty old shades would have to be replaced and of course the natural wood needed to be painted (Sorry Dad 😁), but couldn't wait to take them home.

The lamp in the top photo was a standard tabletop lamp, but the one in the bottom photo had this really cool built-in bowl.

I thought it would be a great makeup table lamp for myself -or my Baby Girl- with the bowl making a perfect storage area for pretty jewelry or hair accessories.  But...... -cut to my garage a day or so later-  .....and just as I finished with they very last layer of paint.....I dropped the lamp onto the concrete floor.  Oops! πŸ˜•

*Moving on*

My remaining lamp, all clean and pretty white after a bit of spray paint.

I didn't break this one 😎😎😎

Once painted, I added a new shade and placed the lamp in my closet room.

I like the way that having this counter level light in the middle of the room (on an island of drawers) makes the room quieter and more restful.  And of course, it's pretty!
