What's more fun than playing with flowers? Or even getting paid to play with flowers? Going shopping with two old friends, that's what! I have known Miss Shelby since her sister Stacia and I were elementary school buddies. That's like, forever! :D Now that Shelby is all grown up and getting married, she decided to give me the privilege of creating her wedding flowers! I couldn't be more excited!
Now most of the time I pre-make my items and list them on eBay, but every now and then I get the pleasure of creating a custom order. We decided that the best way to do this was for Shelby, her mom (Marilyn), and myself to get together at Hobby Lobby and do some shopping. That way Shelby was able to see all of her options and pick out exactly what she wanted, and I was able to make the process a little less overwhelming ;)
Shelby and Marilyn, looking over their floral options.
Here are the Pinterest photos Shelby sent me as she was planning her wedding theme. These were nice to have because we could compare them to what the store had in stock.
As you can see from the photos, Shelby is planning a fall themed wedding. Rather than stop at the traditional fall colors; red, yellow and orange, Shelby has chosen to add in this gorgeous jewel toned purple. It really adds to the elegance of the look.

And here is what Shelby picked out;
Mums in yellow, orange and jewel toned purple.
Red roses, yellow sunflowers and orangy-red fall berries.
Fern leaves and red miniature roses for the corsage work.
We couldn't find red miniature roses in single stem or bushes that we liked, so we ended up snagging these from the garland section.
The chocolate colored satin ribbon will finish off the bouquets.
Painting the roses purple.
I like to dip the flowers first, then use my fingers to get the paint into all the little nooks and crannies. It's a good idea to wear gloves here....unless of course you enjoy brightly colored fingers ;)
I have used paint this way many times. It's a great way to achieve a hard-to-find color or to match the bridesmaid dresses. I love the way it turns out, but be careful not to overdo it. The paint can make the flowers a bit stiff, so it's best to stick to the smaller accent flowers.
I'm going to stop here for now, but don't worry. I finished up Shelby's order today so a beautiful fall wedding blog post will be coming up soon.
Thanks for stopping by!

We needed one more small flower for the corsage work, and settled on these white roses....say whaaaaat?!?!?! White doesn't fit with this theme!.....or does it? See, all we have to do is add a little bit of the right colored paint and there you have it, purple roses!
