Summer Decor 2014

Now that we are making our way into June it's time to reveal my summer decor......especially since I've had it out since May 1st!

I have patriotic items for the 4th of July, but won't put them out until later this month.  For now my summer items are pretty general and consist mostly of summery foods that I have on display in the dining room.  Take a look!

Here I have switched out my glassware.  Away went the Easter eggs and instead I now have cherries, strawberries and grapes.  I like to group similar colors together to keep things from looking too cluttered.

I  have full sized lemons and oranges in glass dessert bowls, again sorted by color.

I also have sliced lemons, limes and oranges mixed together in a large glass jar.  I thought these would look nice all mixed up as it makes one think of refreshing summer drinks!  I have found that if the item is something you would typically mix together for eating, then it tends to look nice mixed within a display as well.

The small jar is full of ivy leaves.  Anything green is soothing to look at and gives the eye a chance to rest.

A few more strawberries, a jar of mixed berries and my watermelon slice.  Because all of these items are food, I put them out in the dining room.  To me it just makes sense to display items where you would typically use them.

We have a semi open floor plan in our home with the dining and living room connected.  I have general decor items (post coming soon) throughout the home, but my seasonal pieces I tend to cluster in the dining room and kitchen.  One day I will do more seasonal changing throughout the living area as well, but for now it's pretty full of baby dolls, cars, trucks and all sorts of brightly colored plastic toys.  And that my friends, is just the way I like it ;)

I  like to make the kids bathroom a fun place, so this is a room that gets a bit of change as well.  Their bathroom is full of rubber duckies, a collection that started with the baby shower for my baby girl, and I have ducks for every season!  Here you can see our surfer duck, our mermaid and a few swimming buddies.

Here is a tip:  If you are going to decorate with bath toys that are also played with, make sure they have completely dried out before packing them away.  Otherwise when they sit in a box for the rest of the year they will grow lots of icky mildew.

That's all for now, happy summer and thanks for coming!
